Joni bella is produced from the native variety of sugarcane, popularly known as konanakatte kabbu, under rain-fed method. This semi-liquid jaggery contains a decent amount of calcium, which is important for bone health and preventing osteoporosis. It is also a good source of copper, iron, and selenium, all of which help maintain healthy bones. Joni bella jaggery contains more antioxidants than honey, as well as other natural sweeteners like maple syrup and agave nectar. Joni bella can be used as alternative to jaggery or sugar. It can be used to make sweets, in tea and coffee as a sweetener and making snacks like chikki. Some common recipes made using joni bella are banana dosa, joni bella muffins, carrot cake and payasam.
