World Heritage Dhamapur Lake On the hand-woven Stole (Scarf)

Rs.3,500.00

The Ancient Dhamapur Lake is the only Lake in Maharashtra to receive the recognition of world heritage Irrigation Site. The lake was built in 1530 before the era of the great Maratha King Shivaji. The Lake is blessed with rich biodiversity and is a home to the rarest species of Flora and Fauna. The lake is situated in the middle of three main ecosystems: Deep water ecosystem, Shallow water ecosystem and the plateau. The Vankar artisan has presented these eco systems on stole with their minute handwork of weaving. The hand-woven, well-designed natural dyed stole beautifully shows the features of Dhamapur Lake. The Vankars have created the two stoles of same thing. One using ‘Ahimsa’ silk and other one in natural dye.  In general method of producing silk the insect is killed; however in the Ahimsa way they wait for the insect to leave the web and this make the Ahimsa silk unique!

Motifs and the theme behind it:

The green and yellow colour line shows the green forest and aracanut orchid. A tiny grey line is the road towards Malwan Taluka.

The red colour patch reflects the soil of Dhamapur and the 32 Ghats which once believed to act as an indicator of water level. It is said that if water level crosses the last 32 step, there is a danger of flood and if the water level decreases the 1st step, there is a danger is drought.

The ancient temple of Goddess Bhagwati can be seen on the Ghat.

Then comes the shades of water, well-presented with the sky blue, blue and dark blue colour dyed with the natural Indigo. These shades of water are a deep water ecosystem of the Lake.

The backwaters or shallow water ecosystem of lake is shown with the green colour (Indigo and Harda dye), Yellow (Onion skin dye), grey (Iron rust). The entire pattern of stole narrates the importance of deep water ecosystem and shallow water ecosystem of Dhamapur Lake.

  • The diversity of plants
  • The community and their livelihood depend on the lake and its surrounding diversity.
  • The diversity of fish
  • The diversity of butterflies

The wise development:

  • This motif reflects the term development.
  • This motif reflects the term conservation.

The last pattern of the stole with these two motifs, explains the concept of wise development. The development is needed; however, the development should never be human-centric. The peripheral ecology and nature pattern should be protected and studied. The wise development includes the balance and conservation of ecology and development of human livelihood. And if the one understands this, follows this, the life would be colorful and joyful like this pompoms (ornamental tufts or Jhumkas).
